Pairing

Thyme‘s bouquets have been a commonly used ingredient in the kitchen for centuries, with the purpose of providing aroma to endless recipes and culinary creations. In traditional cuisine, this ingredient is used with meat and fish stews (seasoning them), providing a deep Mediterranean flavour. In this case, slow cooking is preferred, since it gives thyme the time to release its fragrance.

Thyme is an essential and irreplaceable part of the well-known bouquet garni, a mixture of Provencal herbs used to flavour many traditional dishes.

It is also used to flavour and season oils, cheeses and vinaigrettes.

Medicinal properties

As with rosemary, thyme has a multitude of properties that are very beneficial for health. Thymol is one of the main biocides of natural origin that are known. Biocides are substances that can destroy harmful organisms, such as infectious bacteria.

Here are some of the properties:

  • It cleans the respiratory tract, so its infusions relieve colds and sore throats.
  • This plant acts as disinfectant for bumps and cuts.
  • It helps to reduce inflammation.
  • It is a great reinforcement due to its anti-puretic properties.
  • Thyme is rich in vitamins and minerals that strengthen the immune system.
