Pineapple sage

Pineapple sage or Salvia elegans. This edible flower is red, but there are several colours that vary according to the species: blue, violet, pink and white. This flower finds its origin in Mexico and its name of “pineapple” is assigned to it because of its unique shape.

From salvias are obteined the essences contained in the alcandor, tuyona, terpenes, alcohols … etc. Many virtues are attributed to them, especially the stimulants and tonics. An old custom was to take sage tea to regularize menstrual functions.

This edible flower tastes sweet at the beginning with a bitter and even acidic finish. The peculiarity of this flower is its shape: elongated with pistils.

Medicinal properties

The healing properties of pineapple sage are diverse: for anxiety or for the reduction of blood pressure. According to scientific studies, this flower is potentially recommended for its antidepressant and anxiolytic action.

Pairing
