The nasturtium leaf, as its name says, is the leaf of the plant Tropaeolum majus. The leaf contains the same properties and the same flavour as the nasturtium flower. Therefore, the taste reminds of watercress but it leaves a slight taste of wasabi with spicy notes.

Nasturtium leaves

The nasturtium leaf, as its name says, is the leaf of the plant Tropaeolum majus. The leaf contains the same properties and the same flavour as the nasturtium flower. Therefore, the taste reminds of watercress but it leaves a slight taste of wasabi with spicy notes.

Pairing

In the kitchen, it should be used with salty products, such as meats, seafood, salads … etc. They can be used in desserts, but you have to be aware that this edible “leaf” is spicy, so it must be used with care.

Medicinal properties

The nasturtium leaf has several medicinal properties. It has antioxidant properties and prevents heart diseases. It is used to clean and disinfect wounds. For those who have a tendency to have acne, the nasturtium leaf helps the healing of marks. Applied locally, it also relieves muscle pain. It is useful for treating respiratory conditions, such as bronchitis. But what stands out as the medicinal property of nasturtium is its antibiotic effect.

Among other properties of nasturtium leaf, we can find:

  • It can lower arterial hypertension
  • It is helpful with urinary tract infections
  • On the skin and the respiratory system it has a soothing effect
