Lavender

The lavender flower or Lavandula officinalis, The flowering of lavender is spiciform, that is, in a spiky form. This plant is well known for being very aromatic, which is why it is used as an ornament or for the creation of perfumes.

Its aroma is sweet and intoxicating. The lavender flower has a very characteristic purple colour that is just as intense as its smell. Its flavour is powerful and stands out in contrast to other types of flavours and/or foods.

Pairing

In addition to being used to make fragrances and perfumes, the lavender flower can be used in the kitchen to create new sensations on the palate. Mainly we can use it in desserts and with sweet foods since its flavour is ideal for confectionery. It can also be used with meats, stews, sauces, salads and even cocktails.

The lavender, being such an aromatic product, can be cooked with practically all the foods that we consume daily. But we must be aware that its flavour is powerful, and almost always, it will predominate.

Medicinal properties of lavender

It is more than known the great calming power of lavender. In infusion, it helps mitigate migraines and headaches. It also helps fighting insomnia. And if consumed after meals, the lavender is perfect to help digestion.

Crushed, it can be taken to calm the nerves and even, to improve the state of depression.

Another way to use lavender and take advantage of its medicinal properties is in essential oil. This oil can be used to massage and soothe muscle pain.

But also, the lavender has a great anti-inflammatory power (for arthritis, rheumatism…) and antiseptic (prevent blisters…).
