Dehydrated snapdragon

The official name of this dehydrated edible flower is Antirrhinum majus, but it is commonly known as snapdragon.

This flower can be seen in several colours: pink, maroon, purple, white, yellow, orange or even bicoloured. Its shape is curious and funny. Another special feature of the dehydrated snapdragon is that it does not have the common shape of flowers: this flower is hollow, oval and bell-shaped.

Pairing of the dehydrated snapdragon

In the kitchen, we can use the snapdragon to decorate a cake, to prepare ice with edible flowers… The texture of the dehydrated snapdragon is rough so, in this case, we recommend to rehydrate the flower before using it. To do so, it will be necessary to incorporate this flower to high humidity elaborations. For instance, a pumpkin cream, a bake’s dough or a cookie.

How is the flower dehydrated?

Dehydration is another way of preserving snapdragon. It consists of softly dehydrating the edible flower, so we obtain a natural and crispy product. The main difference with the lyophilized snapdragon is that the dehydrated ones lose a bit of their shape due to the longer duration of the process.

To use dehydrated flowers in the kitchen, we have to re-hydrate them either with a sauce, a soup, in a cake’s dough…
