Carnation

The carnation or Dianthus caryophyllus is an herbaceous plant and very common in Mediterranean areas. This edible flower is of medium size and you can use both the whole flower and its petals. Generally, in the kitchen, petals are used as its flavor is neutral and thus showiness can be achieved in dishes. This is one of the reasons why we use the carnation to elaborate our mix of petals.

  • Pairing: Meats, sea products, stews, desserts, salads, sauces and cocktails.
  • Flowers are packed in micro-perforated plastic trays
  • Flowers must be kept between 4º-6ºC

Carnation

Carnation or Dianthus caryophyllus is a herbaceous plant very common in Mediterranean zones. This is a very pleasing flower because of its colours. Besides, carnation leaves a very aromatic and intense scent. It normally blooms in spring and autumn, but with appropriate conditions, it can bloom during the whole year. Carnation has plenty of variations, among them, it is remarkable the mini carnation.

Pairing

As we said before, carnation has an intense and floral scent. This edible flower has a medium size and we can use the whole flower or just its petals. Generally, in the kitchen, we use its petals, because its taste is neutral and they provide brightness to the dish. This is one of the main reasons why we use carnation to elaborate our mix of petals.

Medicinal properties

Carnation is not well known for its medicinal properties, however, it has several uses related to natural medicine. We can use it to regulate blood pressure. How? Just prepare an infusion of this flower. We can also use this edible flower to alleviate digestive disorders. We also want to highlight that carnation could be used for molar ache, heart disorders and to calm the cough.
