Description

Basil

Ocimum basilicum or as it is commonly known, Basil. It is an annual plant and can be seen in all its splendour from August, as it is very sensitive to cold temperatures. Its leaves are oval and depending on the species, they can have jagged leaves or a silky touch. The flower, white or violet, comes out at the end of each plant bud.

The buds and flowers of basil are widely used in Asian cuisine and also in the Mediterranean. It has a flavour similar to the clove, and it is also very aromatic.

Pairing of basil

The famous Italian sauce widely used for pasta has basil as its main ingredient. It can also be used for salads, meats, seafood, but especially for sauces. Because of its intense flavour, basil is widely used in gastronomy for sauces. It combines very well with tomato, chicken, vegetables…
